Discussion Summary

Visit Seattle, the Port of Seattle, Expedia, and other local travel leaders held a roundtable with Rep. Adam Smith (D-WA) to discuss how infrastructure investments, like Seattle-Tacoma (Sea-Tac) Airport’s new International Arrivals Facility and 32,400-square-foot Concourse D Annex, helped the airport expand international air service, including new nonstop routes with Singapore, Tokyo, Hong Kong, Osaka, Montreal, and Munich. The investments were also believed to help reduce greenhouse gas emissions by reducing the amount of time aircraft spent idling. In 2018, Sea-Tac Airport was the 10th most connected international hub in the U.S. and the 11th most connected domestic hub, helping the area see a record $787.9 million in travel spending in 2019, which generated $80.9 million in state and local tax revenue. The group also advocated for several federal issues, including the Brand USA Extension Act (HR.3851/S.2203), additional road and airport infrastructure investments, a delay in the REAL ID Act, and funding for U.S. Customs and Border Protection.
